Hello parents,

We have welcomed two new babies to our community, Wesley and Rockne. They are so very sweet and they are wonderful additions to our classroom. The older infants are learning to have gentle hands and are very aware and sensitive to the needs of their new friends. It seems like yesterday when Elijah, Miles and Tripp joined us as tiny babies. Miles just celebrated his first birthday and Elijah will be one in just a few days. It has been a fun exciting year of “firsts.” Thank you for sharing these sweet first days with us.

Tripp has recently discovered the baby dolls, and Miles is pointing and saying “baby.” Elijah has already taken 4 steps, just this past week. Ryan is a stand-up comedian I’m sure of it; he keeps me giggling. Vaile is just about to be crawling all around the room. Needless to say things are a bit busy lately. I am amazed everyday how peaceful it remains. Our routines are still consistent which allows the children to be confident and trust in their caregivers; they feel secure and explore the environment freely.  The children are still resting. We enjoy circle time nearly every day, and appreciate being outdoors as weather permits. The older infants have been playing in the sand table and pushing or riding the bikes.

There are many sensitive periods from birth to 18 months of age, as identified by Maria Montessori. Our Infant environment supports each of the following sensitive periods.

  • Order
  • Music
  • Language
  • Touch
  • Precise movements
  • Independence
  • Refinement of senses
  • Tiny objects
  • Good manners

Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.

Ms. Leigh
