Gung Hay Fat Choy! February 3-7 2014 After the freezing cold temperatures of last week, we were very happy to have a couple of very warm days this week. Primary 3 was able to return to our study of China and Chinese New Year. Everyone enjoyed learning about China’s location, land, climate, people, transportation, language, writing, and food, and religion. We also spent time exploring Ancient China’s Emperors and the Great Wall of China. Our busy week concluded with our annual Chinese New Year celebration and parade. Everyone took turns chopping vegetables (from our garden!) for our Chinese cuisine. We enjoyed eating fried rice and rice cakes during snack time. Our parade started at 11:00 am. We exited through the rear doors of the school and paraded onto the soccer field. The parade was complete with horse masks, fish kites, ribbon dancers, drums, tambourines, rhythm sticks, and cymbals. As in all Chinese New Year parades, the dragon was the wonderful finale. We had many teachers, students, parents and grandparents in attendance. It was an awesome day. Gung Hay Fay Choy!
